The North American Repossessors Summit is proud to announce that Ron Brown, industry veteran with more than 40 years experience, will emcee the 7th Annual NARS on March 12-14, 2015.

NARS’s 2015 theme, Money In The Bank, is focused on how to make a profit by using the building blocks of success: people, strategy, finance, sales and marketing and compliance. This year’s summit will include breakout sessions for more specialized education and a lineup of highly sought-after speakers – all focused on experiences and knowledge based on the building blocks of success that will help attendees increase business profits, if applied. As Chairman of the Member Resources Committee, there are a few updates that I would like to share with you. Last month, we mentioned that committee member, Steven Summs, was working with Motor Guardian Cam, a company that manufactures in-vehicle continuous recording systems for the towing and recovery industry. He recently tested two different video dashboard camera models, model MDR-3311 and model MDR-3320, with both cameras offering a two-channel recording. Each model records the driver’s route with the MDR-3311 having an external camera that mounts on the back window to provide a view from behind and the MDR-3320 having a second camera built in focusing on the driver. LoriBookoutThis month’s Member Highlight is Lori Bookout, Manager of ARB of Louisiana. Lori and her staff have been collecting donations for the Humane Society of Northwest Louisiana, an organization that addresses the concerns and needs of animals within the area. Their mission is to eliminate the suffering of animals and to do everything they can to provide a home for the animals.

Without the support of the community, this organization could not continue. Lori’s daughter, Britney Bookout, is also working for a local veterinarian while attending school. Lori’s family and staff are definitely keeping the organization alive and we’re proud to have her within our membership!

Across the automobile finance and recovery industries people will tell you that automatic license plate reader (ALPR) technology has been a valuable recovery method. As one BellesLink customer says, “Anything that helps me locate a vehicle is good. ALPR is one more tool in my toolbox.” But ALPR is not without downsides.

This month’s Member Highlight is Danny Redding, President of Recovery Columbus in Columbus, Georgia. Danny is the son of the late Donna Redding, who was an avid ARA member and worked in the automotive industry her entire life. Danny has proudly stepped in to run Recovery Columbus, the company that his mother built from the ground up back in 2003.Danny ReddingDanny even took a break from his college studies to do what he could to make sure business was taken care of in the most professional way possible. He intends to carry on his mother’s legacy, as well as the company that she built with many years of hard work and dedication.

Danny was one of the well-deserved winners of the NARS 2014 Scholarship Award. We are very proud to have him in the ARA community and look forward to seeing his future endeavors within the recovery industry.

This month’s Member Highlight is Chad Latvaaho, President and CEO of Repossessors Inc. in Maple Grove, Minnesota. In February, Chad participated in the 15th Annual Black Woods Blizzard Tour, a 3-day snowmobile ride and fundraiser to support the ALS Association. The organization was able to raise $760,000 from this year’s event, which will serve nearly 500 people with ALS within the Minnesota, North Dakota, and South Dakota areas.  (more…)

Automatic license plate recognition (ALPR), also know as automatic number plate recognition, is a hot topic in the automobile repossession industry. Over the next posts, we’ll take a close look at ALPR from the perspective of clients, forwarders and repossessors. Like all advances, there’s nothing wrong with ALPR itself, it’s just a technology—and a pretty cool one. But it has raised a lot of questions and concerns over privacy and civil liberties.
